A Community Dialogue on Homelessness  On Sunday, September 30, from 3-5:30 p.m., AUMC is hosting a dialogue on homelessness which will include representatives from the county (including Penny Gross), non-profit agencies, and other faith-based organizations. Come gain a better understanding of homelessness help develop solutions and learn what role you can play in ending homelessness. Flood Buckets Needed  With the onset of hurricane season and a number of disasters around the world, UMCOR is in great need of flood buckets. Please bring any or all of the following supplies and/or donate money for the purchase of the supplies (make checks payable to AUMC; write flood buckets in the memo section). The buckets and funds will be delivered to the Sager-Brown Depot in Baldwin, Louisiana . We will collect supplies through October 1. Items may be placed in the atrium bins. Please see the list of items needed on the sign in the atrium.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

CROPWalk Sat. October 20 8 a.m.. Bring your family. Bring your dog. Take a walk around Lake Accotink on a nice fall morning. Join us in the annual CROPWalk which raises awareness and funds to fight hunger--around the block and around the world. Last year, ACCA received over $4000 as the recipient of 25% of all the proceeds raised by this walk. If you are unable to do the walk, volunteers are also needed to help with registration and snacks or you can sponsor your favorite walker. Joseph’s House Planting II – Come join us for a fall planting event at Joseph’s House in DC. We will be planting 1000 pachysandra plants on Saturday, October 6 and need some helping hands. Send an email to aumcmissions@yahoo.com to donate pachysandra plants and/or to help with the planting. ACCA to Celebrate 40TH Anniversary  The Annandale Christian Community for Action will celebrate its 40th Anniversary on October 2, 2007.  ACCA is a faith-based organization composed of 27 churches and hundreds of volunteers who serve people in need in Annandale , Lincolnia, and Bailey’s Crossroads. 

The celebration will take place at 7:30 p.m. at Queen of Apostles Church, 4329 Sano Street, Alexandria, VA 22312.  Queen of Apostles was the site of the first ACCA meeting 40 years ago.       

ACCA will receive a commendation from the Fairfax Board of Supervisors, as well as a proclamation from the Commonwealth.  An ecumenical choir will perform and past presidents will be honored.  All are invited to attend.  The offering will benefit the Fred Ruffing Memorial Scholarship Program.
