 | Annandale United Methodist Women |
A local United Methodist Women's (UMW) Unit can be found in every United Methodist Church. It is part of the missions arm of the Church focusing on issues concerning women and children.
Program meetings for members and guests are held several times during the year. The programs are both stimulating, informative, and relate to our outreach projects.
ANNANDALE UMW CIRCLE ORGANIZATION
|
The local unit is divided into sub-groups called circles. Each circle meets once a month, usually nine times during the year, for fellowship, support, and to work on projects of their choice. It is in these smaller groups that members' special interests are nurtured and there are many opportunities for each member to use her special talents.
As always, all Circles invite new members to attend and join any of their meetings.
- Deborah
- Deborah Circle is named in honor of the prophetess, Deborah,
who was a strong woman and a judge, willing to be led by God.
We became aware of God's ability to accomplish great things
through Deborah because of her willingness to be led by Him.
We are a small, but potent group of busy women consisting of
business women, teachers, students, officers in service to our
military and our national parks. We are dedicated, tireless
volunteer workers who meet the first Tuesday evening of each
month from September through May, usually at 7:30 p.m. Like
Deborah, we try to focus on what we CAN do, rather than worrying
about what we CAN'T do for the Lord. For more information, contact
Lottie Brown, rwbrownestr@juno.com.
- Lydia
- Lydia Circle invites you to visit or join us at 9:45 a.m.
the second Thursday of each month in the Senior Lounge of AUMC
for fellowship, inspiration and learning. We meet September
- May. Our circle offers warm support for each other and supports
mission projects. Members are actively involved in our church
and community. Our December and Spring meetings consists of
special luncheons at Fort Myer Officer's Club. The namesake
for our circle, "Lydia," was Paul's first Christian convert
in Europe and noted for her hospitality to Christian missionaries.
We invite you to visit us and join our circle of friends. For
more information, contact Circle Chair Alice Snitzer, 703-941-3962,
or Gloria Rothman, grothman@erols.com.
- Mary Ruth
- Mary Ruth Circle is now inactive until further notice.
- Miriam
- Second Thursday, 9:30 a.m. in the church. Crafts. Contact:
Evie Gibson, 703-256-2905, or Judy Wright, msjwright@erols.com.
- Sarah Elizabeth
- Sarah Elizabeth Circle was started in 1992 after joining with
Elizabeth Circle, then the only circle in our UMW unit that
met at night. The group meets at 7:30 p.m. on the second Thursday
of the month (except July and August) in the Church Conference
Room, 210. The circle's main interest is outreach projects to
such local agencies as Bethany House, Ronald MacDonald House
and Salvation Army. For more information about the circle, please
contact Circle Chair Carol Irons, 703-354-5139, or Liz Walker,
eawncats@aol.com.
- Susanna
- Susanna Circle was named from John Wesley's mother, the greatest
human influence in his life. The group meets at 10:00 a.m. on
the second Monday of the month, at a member's house or in the
church. The circle enjoys sharing devotions, a study program,
happy social times, and participating in church and UMW projects.
Long-term friendships help to make this a caring family which
always welcomes new members. Visitors are welcome. Please contact
Circle Chair Marion Mirehouse, mm3633@aol.com.
- Phoebe
- Phoebe Circle is the newest circle at our church. It is named
in honor of a deacon of the church who delivered Paul's letters
to the Romans. Her name means "radiant and pure" and "a helper
of many." This circle consists of women who are 20 to 30-something
years old. Like Phoebe, members hope to provide help and support
to many families through missions work at the Ronald MacDonald
House at Fairfax Hospital. They also offer Christian fun and
fellowship in a relaxing environment as well as encouragement
and support for each other in their daily lives. Meetings are
held at various nearby restaurants at 7:30 p.m. on the first
Wednesday of the month. Please contact Cheri Brown, cheribrown@cox.net.
