Annandale United Methodist Church

PRAYER CHAIN

Caring Ministries

Guidelines

1. The Prayer Ministry is designed to uplift: people who are in need of prayer, to have as many people as possible praying for a person, family or situation. In cases of emergencies, it is designed to function quickly.

2. The prayer chain will function with a staff member of the church calling the people who have volunteered to make phone calls. You do not have to make phone calls to be a part of the tree; in fact, most people will not make a phone call. The number of branches will be determined by the number of people who sign up to pray. No person will call more than 5 other people.

3. Keep a notebook by the phone to take down the information you will receive.

4. When you are called, you will be given all the information there is. Some people desire very little information be given, some people desire detailed information be given. We are here to minister to the needs of those who have requested prayer and one way to do this is to honor their desires about the information we receive.

5. If you are calling other people, Do NOT add information! Even if you know about the situation we are praying for, do not add it to the information you are passing along. The information you are giving is what we have been told. We need to keep the trust of those we are praying for by passing along only what they desire.

6. Pray immediately when you get the request. Do not leave the phone without praying.

7. Pray regularly for all the people in your notebook. Keep track in the notebook when people go off the prayer list. You will receive regular updates on all the people.

8. Give praise when prayer is answered. Remember to thank God for the answers to prayers, even when they may not be the answers we looked for or expected.

9. Do NOT Discuss the Prayer Ministry requests with other people, even those for whom you have been praying. For many people prayer is a deeply personal task. Asking for prayer is difficult for many. Please, keep the confidence of people by making sure our Prayer Ministry is confidential.
