Godly Play
K – 5th Grade
A method of Christian formation and spiritual direction for children. The goal is to teach children the art of using religious language – parable, sacred story, silence and liturgical action – to help them become more fully aware of the mystery of God’s presence in their lives. Bible stories are told with objects and encourage children to enter into the stories and relate them to their personal experience. The class also has an art response, prayer, feast (snack) and gathering time.
Kindergarten – 1st Grade
Children begin with the basic stories, learn how to be together as a community of children and learn beginning skills for work (art) response.
2nd – 3rd Grade
Children continue to gain fluency with the core Bible stories and expand their knowledge with enrichment lessons and extensions of the basic stories. Work response materials are expanded as skills increase.
4th Grade
Children work with the more advanced lessons while expanding their ability for theological reflection and conversation. Response time includes the use of more sophisticated work materials.
5th Grade Godly Play
God’s People in This Place
Godly Play stories, such as The Great Family, will serve to anchor each exploration of God’s people’s experience of God in their own place and time. Additional Bible stories along with thoughtful conversation and engaging activities, help children explore their relationship to God, others, and the world. Expressing their individual responses to the lessons is part of this creative and meaningful series as is outreach and service to others.

SOS – Serving others Sunday
At AUMC we recognize that children are also the hands and feet of Christ and they are called to love neighbor and serve the world as an intragal part of our faith community. Children’s Ministry is actively involved in mission and service projects that support the on-going for our church as a whole. The specific activity is chosen for the age of the children participating so they can understand how their actions reflect God’s love and makes a difference in our community, state, country and the world.
Children participate in many mission projects throughout the year. Mission projects this year included: collection and stocking the shelves for the ACCA food pantry, collecting baby items for families in transitional housing, planting flowers at a local shelter, singing at Evergreen House, delivering food to families in need, creating cards for our homebound members, making lunches for the Bailey Crossroads Shelter and more.
